What is SEO?

SEO, otherwise known as search engine optimisation, is the process of getting pages of your website to rank higher on search engines (usually Google) for specific keywords. This in turn helps to connect businesses and organisations with customers that are searching for specific keywords on Google.

How much does SEO cost?

The price of SEO will vary greatly depending on the client's industry, the SEO agency carrying out the campaign, and the current state of the website on which the SEO work is being carried out. If an industry is more competitive, then more work will be required. If the SEO agency is more experienced, then they'll typically command a higher monthly cost. Additionally, the higher the client's goals, the more work will need to be carried out to achieve those goals.

At webspider, we generally charge a minimum of £1,000 per month for any SEO campaign. Specific prices may vary, but in order to achieve the kind of results our clients want, this is the kind of cost you can generally expect from us.

Can you guarantee results?

A solid SEO strategy carried out by a reliable and experienced SEO agency will have a measurable positive effect on the business in question. Exact results can be hard to guarantee, no matter how precise and agency-specific they are, since the final results are dependent on the Google algorithm, which is only known to Google themselves. However, most Google agencies, worth their weight in salt, will be able to increase overall impressions and clicks for the keywords being targeted.

At webspider, we like to go through a client's business goals to make sure that they have a positive ROI for any money spent with us.

Why we love Hastings

How long does SEO take?

This is a tricky question since each SEO campaign can vary greatly regarding the time it will take to bear the fruits of the labour of the work carried out. The main factors that will affect the time it takes are the goals of the campaign, the industry and overall competitiveness of the keywords being targeted, and the age of the website being worked on.

As a general rule, most SEO campaigns we work on at webspider will take around 6–12 months to complete. We also recommend allowing another 6 months after the SEO campaign ends in order for all changes to take effect. This is because Google's crawling and indexing process can be slow.

Do I need a new website before I start a new SEO campaign?

Sometimes we can jump straight into an SEO campaign and get going with the website you have currently; other times we will need to re-design and rebuild your website before we can start any SEO work. This is generally because the quality of the site will not be high enough to achieve the kind of SEO results you want. With the best SEO strategy in the world, if a website isn't up to scratch, then Google will not be confident enough to display it in their search results for their users.

If you'd like to get our professional opinion, then get in touch, and we can take a look at your current website and let you know whether or not we think you'll need a new website before starting any SEO work.

What are location pages?

Location pages are specific pages on your website that are created for the purpose of ranking for specific keywords. As the name might suggest, these keywords are location-specific, i.e.'seo hastings'—perhaps you found this page by typing in this keyword? People often search for services within a specific area, such as the area they are living in, and then choose a business that is based within that area. By taking advantage of this fact, we can aim to pair these kinds of keywords with areas in which our client's business' operates and so increase the number of clicks to the client's website.

Do I need a blog?

If you've ever looked into SEO before, then you may have been told that you'll need to start a blog. This can be true in many cases, but it may not necessarily be true for your website. A blog can help establish your business as an authority within your industry, bring in extra traffic from those searching for informative content, and be a chance to teach these users about your business and what you do. However, if you're simply looking for a handful of extra phone calls and email leads on a monthly basis, then it will not always be necessary to start a blog and may end up being an additional cost that doesn't bring in a worthwhile ROI.

What is 'blackhat' SEO?

Blackhat SEO refers to the practice of carrying out shady practices for the purpose of 'tricking' Google into ranking a website higher than Google would otherwise rank it. Blackhat SEO is the opposite of whitehat SEO, which is considered to be a Google-friendly practice. Many people had success with blackhat SEO in the pre-2015 era. Such practices would nowadays incur penalties from Google, which would have the opposite effect as originally intended.

At webspider, we only use whitehat methods, so you can be sure that your website will rank effectively with techniques that Google approves of and will last for many years to come.

What about backlinks?

Backlinks seem to be synonymous with SEO. In the past, a website's ranking potential was based mainly on how many backlinks it had, and so many SEO agencies used backlinks as a main part of their SEO strategy to rank their clients higher on Google. These days, backlinks are still important, but less so. Backlinks are still a vital part of any successful SEO strategy, but they will not be the main part of their strategy. Other factors, such as keyword mapping, on-page SEO, and technical SEO, are more important. We will still need backlinks, but we will focus on quality rather than quantity.
